Thursday May 14

Hope everyone has been having fun with this week's activities so far! Check out what we have for today!

1.Rub a Dub Dub, Three Men in a Tub (Sink/Float Experiment)
Science Exploration:
In this classic nursery rhyme, three men float in a tub. In this science activity explore with objects you can find in your home.  Explain to them that some objects sink to the bottom and some objects float on top of the water.  With your child, find some objects around your house to see if they sink or float.
With your child, use a container filled with water and try each object one at a time.  Before putting each object in, ask them to predict (“make a good guess”) if the object will sink or float.  Then have them observe what the object did. (ie: “Did the lego sink or float? That’s right. The lego floated.  Why do you think it floated?”)
Try to find objects that both sink and float.  For a challenge have them think why some things sank and some things floated.  (ie: “The rock is heavy so it sank” or “The lego is light so it floated.”)

2. Nursery Rhyme Sequencing:
Below are sequencing cards with nursery rhymes on them.  Print out one or both cards and have your child “rainbow write” the numbers and color the pictures.  Below you will also find 2 sets of sequencing pictures.  Have your child cut out the pictures.  Then read the rhyme to you child and have them place the pictures in order.  You may have to read the rhymes multiple times.   Then when the pictures are in the correct order, challenge your child to retell the nursery rhyme to you.  It does not need to be the same words, just to retell what is happening in the pictures.
