Thursday May 14:
Show and Tell Day
I will be sending you a link today, If you do not receive a link to click please email me ASAP but before Thursday. Please check your email by to ensure you received by the end of Monday with a link to join.
Families, please help your child choose one item they would like to share with their friends.  Then talk to them prior to the Google Hangout/Meet about what they would like to share.  Perhaps, have them think of 2-3 statements of what to say.
For example: (They can name the object. Something that the object can do.  Where did they get it? Why it is special to them.)
We will be doing this with half of the class.  In order for all of the children to have a turn, I may ask you to  mute some of the microphones so everyone can have their turn to talk.  If your child has something to say to the group, ask them to put their hand up (just like in school). When I call on them, I will ask for you to unmute your child's microphone so they can have a turn to talk.  We will give this format a try and adjust as we go.

Please, make sure that you are with your child so that you can help them to overcome any technology issues that may occur or prompt them to participate as this could be overwhelming for them.

Virtual check-ins may be challenging for your child to participate, and that is okay. This is not something they are used to doing. Here are some behaviors that you may see:
  • Your child may be afraid or too overwhelmed to come to the screen.
  • Your child may be excited or shy to see their friends.  It is almost like starting school all over and it's okay however they feel.
  • Your child may have a lot or nothing at all to say.
  • Your child may make funny faces at themselves being on camera
  • Your child may randomly show off something that seems silly to an adult but important to them from toys to socks.
  • Your child may not attend to the screen.
  • Depending on what activity is happening with your teacher, she/he may mute the entire class for example when reading a story.
