Camping Unit June 2-6


**Our End of the Year Celebration is on Wednesday June 4.  We will sing songs and have a slide show to remember all of the fun we had in the cub cadet classroom this year. ***
Please remember to arrive at 11:40 because our show will begin promptly at 11:45.
Please remember do not park directly in front of the school. Buses will be arriving during our celebration.

Small Groups For This Week:
-We will be practices our songs for other classrooms.  We are very excited to sing for other classrooms. This will happen during our small group time on Monday and Tuesday.  We hope our siblings and friends from other classrooms enjoy our songs.

-Handwriting Small Groups Using a door to write letters using flashlights- We will send home more information about this activity so you can do this at home with your child.

Marching band surprise today

Today on the playground we were surprised by the BHS marching band.  They were amazing!  Everyone stopped to eat and listen as they passed by. What a treat!!

1. Math-Counters in a cup. We will be using marshmallows to count to 10. Then we will put some in the cup and leave others out of the cup.  We will record how many different ways we will make 10.
2. Language- Camping Vocabulary Books
3. Sequencing Camping Scene- We will be coloring then sequencing a camping scene. We will give details about the pictures and try to tell an oral story about the sequence.
- HWT- Using a door to write letters using flashlights- We will send home more information about this activity so you can do this at home with your child.

1.Math- Sets of 5. We will creates sets of 5 objects using camping pictures.  This is to introduce simple addition sentences( 2+3=5)
2. Phonemic Awareness- We will play a rhyming game based on camping words.
3. Science- Sink and Float Exploration with "canoes" and some cargo.

1. Art Project- Multi-step campfire activity.Using red and orange paint and cutting brown paper to create a campfire (This is a 2 day projects for small groups)

Camping Unit Week 1- May 12-16

Small Groups For This Week:
1. Math- We will spin a spinner then record which picture is the outcome.  We will create a chart and discuss math terms such as most, least, and equal.
2. Language- We will play a articulation game that focuses on the sounds /t/ and /d/. We will identify if we hear each /t/ or /d/ in the beginning or end of words.
3. Gross Motor- We will navigate through a river rock obstacle course in the hall. Each time we complete the course, each child will pick up a rock with a letter and say the sound the letter makes before starting again.

Mobile safety street demonstration


Today we went to a mobile safety demonstration at the high school. We learned how to be safe at home, how to walk across the street safely, and bus safety. A paper is in your child's backpack to reinforce what they learned today. 



Effects of throwing a stone into soup

Today we conducted an experiment to see the size of the splash when we held a stone at different heights above the water. It was so fun. We learned the higher the object is the bigger the splash. We also tried a small stone and compared it to the splash of a big stone.

Jello in the sensory table

Yesterday we made jello. We did not use our sense of taste but our sense of touch today in the sensory table. It was a favorite activity at choice time today. Ask your child about it.

Small Groups 
1.Identifying shapes and letters through layers- Just how the princess in our story The Princess and the Pea, we will try to identify shapes then letters by only using our sense of touch
2. Math- Building Stairs.  We will create stair patterns using blocks to first go up and then increase to repeat the pattern going down.
3.Creating 5 Senses Books- Each child will create a book about how they use their 5 senses.  We will create a flip book to bring home when we are complete.
1. Compound Word Activity- We are learning how we can use 2 words to create a new word. For example: cup + cake = cupcake. We will create a chart and illustrate a picture to show the new word.
2. What's Missing Game- We will show objects to the small group.  They will cover their eyes and one or more object will be taken away. They will then uncover their eyes and recall the missing object.  We will increase the number of objects for a challenge.
3./p/ sound sorting- We will build a bed for the princess.  She only likes pictures that begin with the /p/ sound. Then we will draw a picture of the princess
