Today we started to introduce the students to surveys. Each child creates their own question, "Do you like__________?". Then they ask each child their question and record their answer in the yes or no column. This is a fun day to introduce them to the concept of data collection.
We also modeled how to ask and answer the questions. For example, using eye contact, using a "just right" volume, and answering in a complete sentence (ie"Yes, I like ice cream).
After each child completed their survey of the class/small group, they were encouraged to look at their results and discuss what they learned(ie: everyone likes ice cream, most of the class likes yogurt.....).
