Jello in the sensory table

Yesterday we made jello. We did not use our sense of taste but our sense of touch today in the sensory table. It was a favorite activity at choice time today. Ask your child about it.

Our Five Senses

Small Groups 
1. Bear Tug of War- Using 1:1 correspondence each child will roll a cube and move a bear toward them from the middle spot. Another child will have the same turn until the bear gets to the end toward one of the children
2. 5 senses scavenger hunt-We will hunt for items that are red, noisy, soft, etc.  We will try to find 10 different adjectives using just our senses.
3. Princess and the Pea- Rhyming sorting activity.
Math- 1:1 correspondence for princess and the pea.  We will create a bed for the princess by coloring the correct number of peas for each mattress
1. We will create /p/'s for our classroom.  We will discuss words that begin with the sound /p/. We will relate this activity to the Princess and the Pea.  The princess only likes words that begin with /p/.  They will choose a word and draw a picture of it.  It will be added to a row of peas (/p/) in our classroom.
2. Phonemic Game- The chef only likes /P/'s (peas). There will be food pictures turned upside down. They will choose a card say the sound the food makes and sort if the chef wants the food or not.

Small Groups For April 14--17 Week:
1. Sensory Exploration- We will blindfold the children and have them use their sense of hearing and touch to find an object.  They will have to follow directions by listening alone.
2. Math- Understanding ordinal position- In the story Seven Blind Mice, one mouse at a time tried to investigate a mystery object (ie. first, second, third...)We will recall the ordinal position of each mice in the story.
3. Mystery Bags- Children will need to use their sense of touch alone to discover what is in the "mystery bags".(uppercase letters will be in the bags, they will need to identify the letters by describing their lines: straight lines, diagonal lines, curvy lines)

Small Groups For April 28-May 2 Week:
1. Letter Awareness- Guess my rule? Each child will choose 3-4 letters that have something in common.  (ie, all have straight lines, all have curvy lines.....) Then the other children in the group will try to guess what the letters have in common.
2. Zingo Game- A sight bingo game
3.Hero Cat Puzzle- Cut and arranging numbers 1-10 to create the cover of our unit book
-Listening Bingo Game(Sounds we hear at home)
-Listening Walk- In the high school and/or outside.  We will walk then stop and listen for sounds we hear.  Then a teacher will write them down. When we get back to our classroom we will recall where we heard each sound.

1. Boat Capacity- We will fill different boats with objects to see which boat can take the most cargo.  We will use tweezers/clothespins to fill our boats to promote fine motor too. 
2. How will we get to the beach story retelling- We will recall elements of our unit book.
3.Rocket ship Countdown- We will count backwards and forward to create a rocket ship strip.
1. Periscopes- We will be making periscopes to go along with our discussion of underwater transportation.
2.Parking Lot Game- We will use 1:1 correspondence to count then identify the corresponding number to fill up a parking lot.
3. Name Trains- We will color and cut trains to create a train with our names.
