Letterland Apps for the iPad or iPhone: THESE APPS ARE NOW FREE

• “Letterland Rainbow Write”
• In this app, you can use your finger or a stylus to “rainbow write” (just like we do in the classroom) the uppercase and lower case letters, all of which appear on the screen with their Letterlander! The app also tells you each Letterlander’s name and sound.
• “Letterlander Stories”
• **Disclosure** This is actually 10 different apps broken into letter groups. A and Z are in an app alone (called Letterland Stories A and Letterland Stories Z) and the rest of the letters are broken into groups of 3 (e.g., “Letterland Stories BCD). 
• Each app contains a story about the Letterlander, comprehension questions about the story, letter tracing, and a few other activities!
• “Letterland Quick Dash”
• This app names each letter, Letterlander, sound, and a few words that start with that letter.

Instagram Photo of the Day!!

If you have not requested to follow our classroom on Instagram please look us up. I will be posting pictures there of our home adventures. Send me pictures of your child doing fun activities at home with a brief description of what they are doing. Please note that you give me permission to use these home photos and wait for your child to be posted. I will try to post one child/teacher photo per day as they are emailed to me. This can be a great way for everyone to stay socially connected.

Activities for Home

Hello Cub Cadet Families, 

I am hoping all of you are doing well.  Due to the school closure, the teachers and staff at the BECC have created some activities you can do at home.  These activities are optional.  They are some ideas and suggestions that you can try at home with your child.  You will find the activities on the link below:

In addition, People Helping People will be offering FREE LUNCH FOODS for families who receive free or reduced price lunch at school for the duration of the school closure. The food to prepare a week’s worth of lunches can be picked up each Tuesday at St. Mark’s church, 10 St. Mark’s Road, from 3-7pm. Families who need assistance getting these items should call the emergency number (781) 238-4674. 

I will be checking my email frequently so if your child would like to send me a picture of what they are doing at home, I will be happy to respond back to them.  I also plan on doing some video recordings in the future so I will keep you posted on where to see them.

Earth and Sky Unit Week 1

Unit Book: Night Shift Daddy

Weekly Question and Vocabulary Words:

Meet our Letterlander of the Week: 

Vicky Violet

We will continue to have a special art project based on this Letterlander.   We are creating an alphabet book that will be completed by the end of the school year.

This week we will be doing the following letter activities in small groups: 

Sorting Uppercase and Lowercase: V and v

Fine motor activity to reinforce letter this week: finger lights on black paper

We will be reinforcing "alligator fingers" and "always start your letters at the top.

Small Groups

Night Numbers- We will work to recognize, name and write numbers 1-10.  We will dim the lights and use flashlights to search our classroom for number stars in the “night sky.”  We will trace each number on our recording sheet after we found each one.  

Starry Night Math- We will practice recognizing and subitizing numbers 1 through 3. After rolling a number cube, children will recognize the number then find the set of stars to match the sum (subitizing) and put them in a cup. Finally, each child will add how many stars they added to their cup.  When the game is over, they will use those stars to fill up the night sky on their paper.

How Many Am I Hiding- We will have fun playing a guessing game that will help us learn to count on to get to a given number.  Using 5 cubes, we will hide some behind our backs and reveal the leftover cubes.  Players will have to count on to guess the hidden amount and record it on their sheet

Mystery Sounds Bingo- In a bag with be sets of three pictures. As a group, we will same the name of the pictures then try to think of the first sound we hear in all of the words. (ring, robot, rain) Then we will say the sound (/r/) and then identify the letter that makes that sound. We will color the box and play this version of bingo on our papers.

Segmenting Words Sounds- We will be exposing students to segmenting parts of a word.  For example /b/ /a/ /t/.  Using chips we will say each sound and slide a chip as we segment the word.  Then we will bingo dob our papers to make a 1:1 correspondence for the word.

Cub Cadet Mock Election...Our Next President Will Be......

Today we conducted our own democratic primary and then presidential election. Given a choice of the four main candidates, more cubs voted by secret ballot for Biden. Then given a choice of Biden and Trump, more cubs chose Trump in a vote of 10 to 2.  

This was a fun way to pretend to vote like our families. 

Desert Week 2 (March 2-6)

Meet our Letterlander of the Week:

We will continue to have a special art project based on this Letterlander.   We are creating an alphabet book that will be completed by the end of the school year.

Small Groups

Beginning Sounds in the Desert- We will look at 3 different pictures and say the words.  We will identify the words that share the same sounds and put them on the same cactus  The one picture that has a different beginning sound we will put in the sand. 

Desert Math "addition"- We will be creating a desert scene by placing two different types of desert animals.  We will count the animals that are the same and trace the numbers. Then we will count all of the desert animals in the scene.  Then we will trace the "whole number" below the scene.  This is exposing them to the concept of part/part/whole. 

Desert Syllable Sorting- We will label desert vocabulary.  Then we will clap the syllables of each of the vocabulary words.  We will then sort the pictures into a chart based on the number of syllables each word has. 

QR Codes- Using an Ipad, we will scan qr codes. A picture will appear on the Ipad which we will label and then identify the sound we hear in the beginning of the word. We will then trace, rainbow write and draw a picture of the word we said.

Whole Group Science Activity- Using different materials, we will try to build a bridge for the gingerbread cowboy to get across the river to avoid the fox.  We will predict then experiment with materials such as pipe cleaners, straws, popsicle sticks, blocks, etc.  We will try to think of whey some materials worked better than others.
